Kew Gardens, modeled after a town in England, is a triangular-shaped, 320-acre mainly residential area of central Queens bordering Forest Hills, Briarwood and Jamaica. Its 25,000 residents have easy access to Manhattan, Brooklyn and Long Island thanks to its proximity to surrounding parkways and expressways at the Kew Gardens Interchange, the Union Turnpike express subway station (E or F train commute to midtown Manhattan is under half an hour) and the LIRR Station (20 minutes to Penn Station). There is also a direct bus line to JFK Airport. Kew Gardens has a small-town feel with big-city appeal. The main commercial strip on Metropolitan Avenue and a smaller area on Queens Boulevard opposite Borough Hall and the County Courthouse. The community consists of a mix of mid-level apartment houses (both co-ops and rentals), smaller attached single- and multi-family houses, and more spacious detached English and Tudor-style homes near Forest Park, a large preserve wtih walking, biking and riding paths. Rental options include houses, pre-war and modern buildings. Many apartments have been renovated with the latest bathroom and kitchen applicances and cabinetry.
